In my first post on this Nature Therapy Blog I want to honor Stephen Harrod Buhner who authored The Secret Teachings of Plants. This was one of those books that found its way to me through Synchronicity which is no surprise since that is how all experiences, lessons, teachings, etc get to us. You name it and Synchronicity finds a way to get it to us. If we are meant to meet then it will come.

For much of my adult life I have desired to be more connected within myself, to Nature, to plants, and to Nature Spirits. Faeries, gnomes, whatever name you want to give them I have known they exist and yet no idea how to make it happen. About 5 years ago at a Holistic health fair a woman suggested I go and sit in the forest and feel the wind, hear the sounds, see the details of the environment.

I started to experience the Spirits. This was not like I had expected. I thought I would “see” something. Reading Buhner’s book I learned how to connect to my Heart and then “reach” out to a plant. The one plant I have been enamored with for years is the deer fern. Right now all I have to do is imagine that elegant plant and my Heart jumps a little bit. At times I get overwhelmed with a “feeling” unlike anything else in life. Not like loving my wife or my daughter.

No this is unique. And no other plant does this for me. More on this later. I just want to get this initial post up and under my belt as we set this ship asail.

My intention for this blog is to promote the development of the heart as an organ of perception and be able to experience our inter-relatedness with plants, the Earth, and all beings..
