Therapist Trainings

On our planet we are in a “new time, a new situation”.  What worked in the past will no longer suffice.  Focusing on thoughts and behaviors in the physical reality are not enough.  We, as individuals and as therapists, must address the basic problem affecting us now as beings on this Sacred Planet.
Our therapy and training approach is unique in addressing the current human dilemma.
Ecotherapy and ecopsychology help us to both see and define the wound of our severed belonging with Earth, and to enable its repair. Though we are not truly severed, as anyone who eats and breathes knows on some level, still there is a growing perception of loss in terms of our place on Earth, as well as identifiable physical loss in the organic worlds of plants and animals -- the "more than human world."  This absence of contact and connection has created a sense of not-belonging anywhere -- and of not being part of the ecological systems of the earth. In this way, humans fail to sense the impact we have on our ecosystem -- even as we sense the psychic loss and act out in its wake.
We must first find the remedy for ourselves in order to take our clients there.

'Using direct perception to learn the healing power of plants [and Nature] is not a spectator sport..... eventually you have to move from looking and go into feeling, realizing that feeling is a sense, too. Not the touch of the fingers, but the touch of the heart. This kind of touch has another dimension, deeper than that possessed by the fingers.... And as we touch, so are we touched. " S.H.Buhner

Online Courses
Our online courses are only $100 for 6 CEU's (that's $16.66/ CEU). In the comfort of your chosen natural or home environment, you will be able to move from having a dominating linear/cognitive approach to developing a mindful/heart felt attitude. No matter what your experience level with the mind/body approach, you will connect with your heart, your clients, and with Nature more easily . The first course has a 1 week 100% return policy if you are dissatisfied.

Nature Therapy Trainings Retreats

Enliven your heart through nature immersion. With other nature-loving therapists, sometimes together, sometimes on your own, you will discover the emergent practices of Ecotherapy/Nature Therapy. Week end trainings will take place at our home base on South Whidbey Island (1+ hours north of Seattle) And in California at Joshua Tree and the Anza Borrego State Park.

While attending indoor conferences for CEU's  (at $25/ CEU)  I have often been bored, had moderate interest in the subject matter, and couldn’t wait for it to be over so I could get my certificate and get out the door and beat the traffic. I was there because I needed the credits.

Our CEU's are about $30 each. Our lodging and home cooked meals are about $300 for the weekend. On top of that you will be "on vacation" resting, hiking, drawing, and meditating in this in-ground stone hot pool (if we are on Whidbey Is.). Our programs are set up to take you out in Nature as much as possible depending on the weather conditions. And if necessary be indoors in quiet, peaceful, natural setting with plants and lighting. And even a cozy fire.

In the Winter and Spring we also go to the sun and warming temperatures of California at Anza Borrego State Park and Joshua Tree, and in Summer we move north to the Hoh Rainforest in Washington and  Jedediah Smith Redwood State Park.

We do everything we can to make this a peaceful, emotionally safe, incredibly rewarding and beneficial experience for you as a human being and as a therapist. Therapists are often overworked, overwhelmed, burned out, and in need of rejuvenation and increased resilience. Nature is our greatest resource if we are able to tap into it.

Book Study

Therapists can get an additional 10 CEU's for reading The Secret Teachings of Plants by Stephen H. Buhner, and answering four essay questions. This is also the main reading for the retreats, and will significantly enhance your experience.  If you are attending a retreat, you can submit your responses at any time before or after the retreat. Price:  $160.
